Are all your ceramics handmade?

Yes. Every piece at Crafts by Charu is individually handcrafted in our home pottery studio. Since each item is made by hand, slight variations in shape, texture, or glaze are completely natural. These unique details are what make handmade ceramics so special.

How are handmade ceramics made?

Each piece begins as a lump of clay that is carefully shaped by hand or on the pottery wheel. It is then left to dry slowly, refined, fired in the kiln, glazed, and fired once again. This multi-step process takes time and patience, resulting in durable, functional ceramics.

What is glaze?

Glaze is a glass-like coating applied to pottery before its final firing. It adds colour, texture, and a protective finish while making the surface smooth and easy to clean. The final appearance develops inside the kiln, making every glaze pattern unique.

What is firing?

Firing is the process of heating pottery in a kiln at very high temperatures. This transforms soft clay into strong ceramic and permanently bonds the glaze to the surface, making the piece suitable for everyday use.

Why doesn't every piece look exactly the same?
